A phobia is an extreme fear or aversion for an object or a situation which produces an irrational reaction in the individual. A phobia can be a learned behaviour or can originate from a bad experience. Irrational fears & phobias can limit your daily activities and may cause severe anxiety and depression.
People with fears and phobias can often experience panic attacks. These can be very frightening and distressing. The symptoms often occur suddenly and without warning.
Symptoms can include
- sweating
- trembling
- hot flushes or chills
- shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
- rapid heartbeat
- nausea
- feeling faint
- a need to go to the toilet
- dry mouth
