What is hypnotherapy
Unlike stage hypnosis it does not involve the therapist taking control of your mind or making you do something against your will, you remain in complete control.
Hypnotherapy is a combination of Psychotherapy and Hypnosis. The Psychotherapy uses “solution focused therapy” techniques designed to reduce anxiety and calm the mind, focusing on solutions for the future, not the problems of the past. This itself is extremely beneficial and its effects are enhanced by the application of Hypnosis, allowing you to focus on the positive aspects of your life, encouraging a shift in perspective. Hypnosis could be described as a guided daydream; it is a state of focused attention achieved through deep relaxation and positive visualization. In this relaxed state, your mind is more responsive to beneficial suggestions, designed to help you change unhelpful thought patterns. Many people experience such “hypnosis” daily, for example driving a well-known route and not remembering the journey is known as “Highway Hypnosis”.
What to expect
In the initial consultation we assess what you want to achieve, how hypnotherapy can help you and how many sessions you are likely to need, as well as a detailed explanation of how the brain works, why we suffer from certain issues and how we will help overcome these. Subsequent hypnotherapy sessions focus on moving forward. You will be encouraged to imagine your preferred future, a future where you have a more useful perspective on the quality of your life. Then in a relaxed state of hypnosis you are guided, so that you can consolidate what has been discussed.
One to one sessions are available online or from Nice Touch Treatment Rooms, Bangor.
When hypnotherapy is not suitable
It is not advised to seek hypnotherapy with certain disorders such as bipolar, schizophrenia or epilepsy. However, in cases where these are well controlled with medication, and under suitable supervision, hypnotherapy can help with the stress of those conditions.
