Corporate Mental Health
“Jemma is an incredibly knowledgeable person, she is fantastic at what she does. She knows so much about the mind. I booked her for my mental wellbeing event and she went down a storm. The participation of the audience was huge and the feedback I’ve had has been amazing. The deep relaxation was a fantastic addition to my event. I couldn’t recommend her enough, she’s great at what she does and she’s such a warm and lovely person” Rebecca Browne, Mindset Coach and organiser of the Black Dog Mental Health Event
Mental health and the workplace
In 2018/19 stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 44% of all work-related ill health cases and 54% of all working days lost due to ill health. Stress, depression or anxiety is more prevalent in public service industries, such as education; health and social care; and public administration and defence.
One in four people in the UK will have a mental health problem at some point. While mental health problems are common, most are mild, tend to be short-term and are normally successfully treated, with medication, by a GP.
Mental health is about how we think, feel and behave. Anxiety and depression are the most common mental health problems which among other things can be caused by work-related issues.
An optimum amount of stress is very beneficial as it keeps an individual stimulated, motivated and engaged. However prolonged periods of high levels of stress can lead to both physical and psychological damage, including anxiety and depression.
If an individual is dealing with other stressful situations in life, work related stress can increase the levels they are dealing with. Alongside any other pre-existing conditions this can cause more problems or worsen their symptoms.
Regardless if work is the cause of these health issue or exacerbating them, employers have a legal responsibility to help their employees. As far as reasonably practical steps must be taken to remove or reduce any factors detrimental to an employee’s mental health
